5 Digital Marketing Tips for Bootstrapped Startups

13 Apr 2015

It’s common for startups to have limited funds at the beginning of their launch. After all, one of a startup’s goals is to appeal to investors so that they can market and grow their product or service. So, what can a start do in the digital marketing arena to make an impression, generate a following and appeal to investors and/or customers? Here, we’ve listed 5 ways in which you can use digital marketing, particularly social media, to your advantage.

  1. Establish a voice. Social media is a way for you to establish your brand’s voice. By establishing that voice, you STARTUPSare not only giving an identity to your brand, but you’re allowing your audience to feel comfortable interacting with your brand. Nothing is worse that a social presence with inconsistent and infrequent posts about your brand’s message.
  2. Engage your audience. Social media allows you to interact with potential and current customers. Leverage each platform by not just posting, but by interacting and connecting with those who interact and connect with you. It’s also important to not be afraid of potential confrontation or conflict with a few of your audience members. Take it as an opportunity to show how your brand thrives in a customer service element.
  3. Invest in the platforms. A few social sites, particularly the main ones like Facebook and Twitter, are becoming increasingly involved with sponsored posting. These days, if you want to get your message out, a small investment in Facebook and Twitter ads can promote your brand to your target audience. The ads also allow for experimentation, in which you can track and modify your ROI as you see fit.
  4. Keep your customer in mind. Often startups use their social media accounts to constantly promote themselves. However, it’s not about you; it’s about your customer. If your customers are constantly bombarded by promotional posts and tweets, you don’t provide them with any value. Find and share information and content that your customers want to see and learn about.
  5. Most importantly, content is still king! Quality content brings quality leads, and yet is one of the most overlooked investments made in digital marketing. When developing your content, focus on what’s relevant in your industry and to your target market. Develop a content strategy and a calendar to consistently engage your audience. And finally, don’t focus on communicating about the features of your product or service in your content. Focus on the benefits!
