In the digital world we live in today, it is easier than ever to start your own trend. Tracking and researching the latest trends is what we at ParadigmNEXT are doing on a daily basis. As digital marketing experts, it’s imperative that we follow digital conversations taking place on various platforms in order to see where the trends are and how we start the next one. Below are some of our tips to starting a trend, rather than following it.
The most important part of starting a trend is doing your research! As we mentioned it is crucial to understanding what content is reaching a broad audience. For example, look at the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The reason it was successful is because people wanted to support a great cause and have fun at the same time. It was incredibly inclusive. Everybody had the opportunity to dump a bucket of ice on their head for the entire world to see. When starting a trend, think of how it will engage and include with the masses.
Trends are trends because they’re original. They work because no one has introduced them before. So get creative. More than likely, you’ve come across a trend on your mobile devices. So much of the news, and headlines are consumed through iPhones, tablets, Androids, etc. Whatever it is you’re promoting, make sure it is mobile friendly. That way it’s easy to watch a video, follow an infographic or read content on the go.
Use Buzzwords & Keywords Wisely
When writing the content for your trend, make sure it lines up with popular buzzwords and keywords that rank well on Google. With the right keywords peppered into content for any campaign or trend, it is likely that your content will be optimized appropriately and that people will find it while searching.
Finally, it’s time to promote! To get the word out, push your newest trend or trending campaign on all your social platforms, digital spaces, through traditional media, via email, and wherever else you can place content. Whatever the trend may be, you need to connect with supporters to make it worth their while to get on your trend.
