ParadigmNEXT’s Top 5 Reasons to Disconnect

In the age of always being connected, people are often glued to their devices. With non-stop updates, tweets, emails, posts, snaps and whatever else clutters your phone, it’s hard to disconnect. We feel the need to always be in the know- know, what your friends are doing, know, the latest trends, know the sports scores etc. Storing away your smart gadget, and resisting the urge to sign in online, can be very beneficial. A great article by Zach Cultler, a contributor of Entrepreneur, inspired this blog post. We, here at ParadigmNEXT, outlined the top 5 reasons, we think it is important to disconnect. A Chance to Breathe

Always being subjected to the overload of baby pictures, push notifications and silly selfies, is not healthy for anyone. Take a breather, and focus on yourself. I can’t imagine you are always eager to see how fun your friends had hitting the town, or seeing the feed of that one person who doesn’t know when to stop posting! We are not suggesting to delete your accounts, but set aside time during the week, where you will not have the temptation to sign in. Taking a break, will refresh yourself, and give you a chance to think clearly.

Engage in Fun Group Activities

With the introduction to all this great technology, family game night, along with social interactions often go to the wayside. It is ironic that while this technology was created to enhance connections, it sometimes is doing exact opposite. Bring back those fun get-togethers with your friends and or family. There are endless opportunities out there, for some ideas check out what’s happening around Chicago.

Think Freely

It is easy to get sucked into the opinions and judgments, which fills online sites. Don’t get consumed by all the message boards, comment sections and threads. Disconnecting for a period of time, will help with digesting all that is out there, and will make for you to form your own thoughts. While, the internet provides great information, it is important that you can think for yourself on anything and everything that is happening.

Be Adventurous

While we’re on the brink of yet another Chicago Winter, there are still opportunities to be adventurous. Attending classes Chicago’s Brooklyn Boulders, or waking up early to be apart of November Project Chicago are just a couple examples of how to be adventurous without any technology needed. Here are some other ideas as winter approaches.

Freedom to be Creative, Original and Innovative

Take back your life, follow your passions, and find exciting hobbies. There has never been a better time to take up your interests. Look up, and try to not stare down at your device 24/7. While, ParadigmNEXT contributes to creating content for online, we still value the importance to remove yourself from technology. Taking a little bit of time out of your day to resist the urge, or abandon your facebook, twitter, instagram for a day out of the week, will only prove to help you as a person to living a much fulfilling life!
